Hello Everybody! My name is Zack Ziegenhorn, but most everyone I know calls me Zig for short. Its much easier to remember than Zack and MUCH easier to spell than Ziegenhorn. (lol) I am from Tulsa, OK and I am a senior Communication major. I went to Tulsa Union High School where I played baseball. I continued my baseball career for one year in college at Seminole State College but had to cut my baseball career short due to nagging injuries 😡. I came to OU in 2013 because I have been Sooner born and Sooner bred. I have been a huge OU fan my entire life and was so excited to get the opportunity to attend this University.
Obviously I am a huge sports fan and love football, baseball, basketball, and golf. My favorite teams are OU, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thunder up!! I enjoy going to the lake over the summer and getting on the boat and just having a great time with friends and family. I would consider myself a social person because I love to meet new people and really getting to know how someone ticks. I love picking peoples brains, especially those people who can teach me something new. If fascinates me to figure out why people are interested in certain things to see peoples faces light up when they talk about something the love. I'm also a fan of arguing and discussing things with my peers. Even sometimes when I know I'm wrong. Come on we all do it. I guess all in all I am just someone who loves to be around people, have a good time, and crack a cold beer every now and then. Ill leave you with one of my favorite quotes!
"One must be a fox in order to recognize traps and a lion to frighten off wolves" - Machiavelli

Hey Zack! I like your comment about your last name being hard to spell, I get that way to often... but usually everyone just calls me Steph. I am also a senior here from Tulsa and I went to Bishop Kelley. That's really cool that you played baseball for a year. I played soccer and thought about playing in college but my body had had enough by the time I was done with high school. Good luck with your senior year and Thunder Up!
ReplyDeleteI love that quote from Machiavelli: very nice! As you might have guessed from the readings for class, I am a huge fan of animals stories and also animal proverbs... and I use a fox as my avatar online (I always have done that in fact) in honor of all the foxes who appear in Aesop's fables. I am definitely more like a fox than I am a lion or a wolf, ha ha. Maybe you will want to do a project for this class about some kind of animal (goats!!! in honor of your last name), or maybe a sports-related project. Athletic competition has been part of human culture for thousands of years, which means it has been part of human storytelling for all that time too. The sports heroes of the ancient Olympics were famous all over Greece, like the mighty Milo of Croton, just to name one. You might want to explore that as a topic when you do the brainstorming later this week!
ReplyDeleteHey Zack! I must admit “Zig” is a pretty sweet name to be known by. I am also very into sports, but mainly football and basketball. I do tend to keep up with baseball but usually just here and there since the season is so long, but I am a Giants fan (2014 NLCS was awesome). Being around family and friends is always a great time and I can relate on the argument stance! I have a brother who is a year and a half younger than I, so you can probably guess how certain situations about decision making go. Hope you have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely understand why you went with Zig, that is such a cool name. I guess you;ve been going to school for a while now, do you like it? I started in 2013 here as well but took a two year break to go live in Peru. I have to admit I'm not a big baseball fan, but I love basketball and football, so we have the Thunder and OU in common still. Best of luck with your studies!
ReplyDeleteHi Zack,
ReplyDeleteI can relate with having a name that is hard to spell, my name is Aubryelle, so most people just call me Aub for short. I also love going to the lake in the summer, it is always one of the highlights of summer for me. Also, I really like your page name. Great post! Have a great week
Hi Zack! I've never met anyone named Zig, and I think it's such a cool name! My great aunt was called Zip, which is pretty close. My family also likes to go to a lake or bay during the summer, and sitting out on the boat with them is one of my favorite things in the world. How great that you enjoy people and getting to know them! If only everyone made such an effort to understand other people!
ReplyDeleteHi Zack! That's so cool that you were a college athlete, even if it was only for a year. I have a hard enough time managing my time and getting everything done with school alone so I can't imagine what that must have been like. I'm sorry you had such persistent injuries though. It sounds like you really loved playing the game of baseball.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think you want to do with your communication degree after you graduate this year?
Hi Zack! It is great to meet another fellow Redskin from OU and especially this class :) I'm so sorry that you have to stop playing baseball due to an injury, but I am glad that you get to join the OU family and enjoy it here. I have never met anyone who named is Zig before so it is quite interesting. Therefore, it is nice to meet you Zig!
ReplyDeleteHey there Zack! Wow a communication major! That sounds really cool. My mom was a communications major and worked for AT&T I think and because of that she was like one of the very first people to get to have a cellphone! So really just like any other major, your career is what you make it! Just stand out more than the others in your class and you should do very well in life. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteHi Zack!
ReplyDeleteI haven't met very many people who count a quote by Machiavelli amongst their favorites. I think that's awesome! I have a lot of baseball players in my family and I've seen some of the injuries that nag them, but for some reason it never seems to inhibit their love of the game. They're all sports fanatics, and they make fun of me for being completely oblivious to all things sports-ball. It's really nice to meet you, and even though the semester is almost over, I hope it's treating you well!
Hey Zack. Grats on making it to college baseball, sorry about how it turned out though. I definitely understand having to leave a sport you love due to injury. Hope you're enjoying your time here at OU. I hope you continue to have an amazing time here at OU. Best of luck the rest of the semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Zack. First of all, sweet title on the pages. That's so cool that you're from Tulsa. I am from Tulsa as well and I know a lot of people that went to Union. I went to Glenpool but I am from around Bixby. Sorry about your baseball injuries, but its really cool that you made as far as you did. I hope you're enjoying your semesters and finish strong. Thunder Up!
ReplyDeleteHi Zack!
ReplyDeleteI like how you have a shortened nickname that everyone calls you by. Me on the other hand, people like to call me Charley, but it's not that much easier to say than Charles.. anyways! I can feel your passion for Oklahoma and sports. I myself am a huge fan of sports. Especially basketball because I live and breathe basketball. My favorite team this season has got to the OKC Thunder with their new BIG 3.
Hi Zack!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really like the design and layout you have chosen for your blog. I also like the image you have incorporated into your introduction. I think it gives your blog a nice touch! I think it’s cool that you are a communication major and congrats on being a senior this year! I hope you are having a good semester so far and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!
Hi Zack!
ReplyDeleteLooks like there are a few people I haven't gotten a chance to visit this semester! Our class is huge, wow. But, I am glad I am able to visit your page before the semester ends. Looks like you definitely are a person who knows how to have fun and love to spend time with people! It's great to see your journey and how you ended up at OU. I wish you the best of luck with finals week!
Hi Zack! It’s awesome how you were able to pursue your sports dreams after high school. I know the feeling of having it cut short due to injuries so I understand the pain there. However, I am glad you are happy that you ended up here. I hope you have a good rest of the semester as well as a good rest of your senior year.
ReplyDeleteHey Zack!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a pretty neat person! I'm sorry your nagging injuries cut your baseball career short but I think that was ultimately a good thing since you got to come Okla[HOME]a to OU. I think it's fascinating to see what makes people tick as well but we're total opposites when it comes to arguing and discussing things, I'd rather everyone got along! It was great to meet you and I hope you have a fantastic rest of the semester!
Hello Zack,
ReplyDeleteThe nickname is so much better, Zig is awesome haha. Sorry about your injuries but things happen for a reason and it seems you have found a love for communication. Picking people's brains is an interesting hobby, I am sure you have come across a lot of things that probably have shocked you. You can never judge a book by its cover.
